Journal 15: Analyzing an Argument

Daniel, Griswold (April 15, 2010). China- it's money. Los Angeles Times. Retrieved April 16, 2010, from http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-oe-griswold15-2010apr15,0,2954950.story
In this article, Daniel opposes the argument by the U.S. Treasury Department that the U.S. Treasury Department should delay its semiannual in order to force China to appreciate its currency (par. 1). Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner's argument that he would delay the scheduled April 15 release is a claim of policy which appeals to reason : give more time to negotiate with top Chinese officials. However, Daniel thinks this policy is nonsense because China is the hottese major export market for U.S. companies (par. 5). Daniel gives many import and export statistics evidence (par. 6- 14) to demonstrate that the most beneficial way for America is to strengthen friendly relations between the two countries, not to pick a needless fight.
